Almost everyone will have been there before and it is something that we all have to live with. That is the break up of a relationship and the heartbreak it causes. If you still want to be with your ex partner and are not sure if they feel the same way there are some ways of telling. Many relationships would work well if both people had similar ideas and the same level of emotional maturity.

The first thing you will want to do is to think about their behavior towards you. If you still keep in contact then you can watch how they react to you. You may find that they give you their undivided attention and give you a lot of compliments. This alone will not tell you everything though. At this point it is important to take things slowly. Even if your ex seems to be indicating they want you back you do not want to make any rash decisions. Try to arrange things to that you spend some time together as friends in order to work out whether the feelings will last or are just temporary.

An important thing to keep in mind is that often when you are lonely after a break up you think about the great times you had together without thinking about the problems that led you to split up. If you start the relationship again without dealing with these issues then it will probably not last too long. Even though it is a good idea to spend time with your ex to figure out if it will work again, you should not underestimate the power of having some thinking time. Having the time on your own can seem painful at first but it can really help you to get some perspective and find out if you want the relationship to work. It may be that you eventually decide to get on with your life but you will not know that while in the whirlwind of a break up.

Having given yourself some space you should be in a good position to decide what you both want. If you decide to remain apart then at least you know you tried to make it work. If you begin the relationship again then you may well have worked through the problems to a large extent.

Keep the lines of communication open and if you do decide to get back together make sure you continue this into the relationship and do not fall back into bad habits.
