1) Always keep your loved one informed about your daily activities – even If both of you are distance away, keep your daily life and schedule available for your loved one.

3) Set down relationship rules and regulations – It is critical that you and your partner set rules and restrictions to guide your long distance relationship.

4) If possible select different ways of communication. It’s important to establish and sustain an emotional connection. Tell each other about your daily activities. Use an instant messenger prograsm or VoIP for real-time chat, or web cams for that visual connection. E-mail is great, especially if long distance phone calls are not within the budget. Send small gifts or flowers for no reason and not just on a special occasion. In this case, quantity is as important as quality.

5) Visit Regularly – Have plan to visit each other at least once in 3 months, worst case 6 months. It is important to be able to see each other face to face, to have some physical contact with one another.

6) Establish Trust – Long distance relationships are difficult, as you are emotionally attached to a person you cannot touch or for comfort. The only way to make this relationship succeed is if you and your partner honestly believe you will be able to live for a considerable amount of time without the desire to to see someone else. Trust is an important thing to maintain in your relationship, even more for a long distance relationship which will require twice as much, because lack of trust will definitely damage a long distance relationship.

7) Never Make Assumptions – Never assume that your long distance partner knows your feelings, you need to communicate your feelings directly. Assumptions kill many relationships but clear communication helps relationships to succeed.

Do things together and defy the distance. In a long distance relationship, interaction over the phone can become dull in the long run. Incorporating other exciting forms of communication is important. Try to replicate those things which non long distance couple can do together such as watching a TV or a movie simultaneously.
